Stockton residents watch their port city slip away: Within three months, the Central Valley city of 300,000 could become the nation’s largest municipality to file for bankruptcy. The City Council is trying to slow or stop the bust by entering mediation.

A California teen spent the night stuck in his family’s chimney after trying to slide in past curfew.
Herrera’s family found him about 10 a.m. with his Air Jordans dangling out of the fireplace and the rest of him stuck inside the chimney. They quickly called the fire department to rescue the teen, who weighs about 150 pounds…
With the help of some rope around the teenager’s wrists, a boost from below and some soapy water, Herrera was eventually pulled up out of the chimney, which firefighters had to break apart in the hourlong rescue operation. Herrera emerged unharmed, physically at least. His ego was an entirely different matter.
