Reader memories of 9/11: tumblingalma

9/11

I don’t know if i count but I was in the 1st grade when 9/11 happened. I attended an elementary school in Sacramento. I remember it was lunch and all the adults seemed weird. They were all on edge and something was wrong, everything was just so quiet. Then after lunch when we would usually have our lunch recess we were lined up and walked to our classrooms by our teachers. i remember asking my teacher why we were going inside and he just said something really bad happened. We went inside and they turned on the news. Us being in the first grade didn’t understand and we just played for the rest of the day. Parents began to get to school early picking up their children. I didn’t understand why. I don’t think I really ever understood what happened until much later. All i understood was that someone in planes attacked something called the World Trade Center in New York. New York seemed so far away. I mean looking at the map it was on the other end of the country.
