The L.A. City Council will consider a proposed ban on the use of elephants in traveling shows (like circuses) that come through the city. Councilman Paul Koretz, who heads the Personnel and Animal Welfare Committee, put forward the proposal, and the committee voted yesterday to move it forward.
Unsurprisingly, Feld Entertainment Inc., which owns the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, has made clear its opposition to the proposed ban. Ringling comes through L.A., elephants in tow, every year.
